Vernon– Mary L. Wilcox, age 71, of Peterboro Street, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the Abraham House in Utica with her loving granddaughter by her side.
Born on February 24, 1946, in Verona, NY, she was the daughter of the late Irving E. and Edna M. (Murfit) Hilts. Mary was a graduate of the 1964 Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School class.
She was an employee of Sylvan Verona Elementary School, Herb Philipson's Store, and also spent time working for Oneida Limited until her retirement. Mary was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Verona. She loved spending time caring for the children in her family. Mary enjoyed trying her luck at the Casino. She cherished time spent with family over all, and had especially fond memories with them at Cranberry Lake camping together.
Survivors include, her children, Rodney (Lisa) Wilcox of Vernon, and Robby (Mae) Wilcox of Vernon; her grandchildren, Paige (Ron) Aletti of Verona, Brandon Wilcox of Rome, and Blakelynn Fox of Oneida; her three great-grandchildren, Jensen and twins Ethan and Scarlett Aletti; and her siblings, Eugene "Pop" (Peg) Hilts of Durhamville, and Bernard (Diane) Hilts of Rome. Mary was predeceased by her parents.
In following with Mary and her family's wishes, her calling hours and service will be private at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY.
