Obituary of Bernard R. Ames

Bernard R. Ames Vernon Center-Bernard "Bernie" R. Ames, age 91, formerly of State Rt. 26, passed away early Friday morning July 18, 2014 in the Masonic Care Community in Utica with his loving daughter at his side. He was born on June 30, 1923 in Vernon Center, New York the son of the late Edger and Ella (Rodomere) Ames and was a graduate of the Vernon Center Schools and Vernon High School. Bernie was a lifetime resident of Vernon Center where he was a dairy farmer and retired as a supervisor for the NYSHI a job that he enjoyed very much that gave him an opportunity to call on many other dairy farmers. On May 29, 1949 he married Margaret Streeter and the couple enjoyed a loving relationship of over fifty-one years together until her death on December 9, 1990. Bernie was a member of the Vernon Center United Methodist and was a sixty-five year member of the Sconondoa Masonic Lodge 814 of Vernon. Surviving is his daughter Barbara Ames and son Bernard Phillip Ames both of Vernon Center. In keeping with Bernie's wishes there will be private calling hours at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in Skinner Cemetery, State Rt. 26, Vernon Center, New York with Rev. Melissa McCarthy Pastor of the Vernon Center United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of please consider donations to the Vernon Center United Methodist Church or the Vernon Center Fire Department in Bernie memory.
