Oneida – Donald G. Williams, 80, of Canastota, NY, passed away at his home on November3, 2018.
Born on October 8, 1938, Donald was the son of the late Lewin and Sarah (Burmingham) Williams. Donald graduated from Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (VVS) High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged. Self-employed, Donald owned and operated the Williams' Oneida Sewing Center for 53 years.
As a child, Donald enjoyed riding and showing horses, often winning ribbons. As an adult, he enjoyed restoring classic cars alongside his son, Jeffrey. In the winter months, Don enjoyed snowmobiling, especially annual trips with family and friends to Piseco Lake in the Adirondacks. During the summer Don was an avid boater, visiting various upstate New York locations by boat, such as the Finger Lakes. He also especially enjoyed traveling with family and friends by boat many times up the Canadian Rideau Canal from his home in Sylvan Beach, nearly to Ottawa and back. Donald was also a member of the Elks Club, the Owls Club and the American Legion.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey (Kim) Williams, his daughter, Jodi Delapaz, his grandchild, Nicholas (Jerrica) Williams, and two great-grandchildren, Lyla Ray and Leo Burrell. Donald was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald and Douglas.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in Donald's name may be made to Wanderers' Rest Humane Association in Canastota.
