Sherrill: Charles (Buck) Douglas Canada Jr., age 79, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025.

He was borrn in Havre de Grace, Maryland the son of Charles and Louise Canada. Charles graduated from Havre de Grace High School in 1964 and served in the US Air Force from 1965-1969 including a tour of duty in Southeast Asia. He was known to family and friends as Buck.

He was employed by Davidson Chevrolet in Rome for 10 years and by Uebler Ferris for 2 years. It was then that he became Transportation Supervisor with the Madison Oneida BOCES for over 25 years until his retirement. He was responsible for the school bus maintenance for over 300 buses.

Charles married Jean Peglow Canada in 1969 and they had a loving relationship for over 55 years. He and Jean raised their two sons in the Village of Oneida Castle, before moving to Sherrill in 2017. He was a devoted husband and father. His greatest joys were his sons and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife Jean, son Jeffrey (Allison) Canada of Salisbury, MD and son Christopher (Katharine) of Niskyuana, NY. He leaves four grandchildren, Nathan (Kelli) Canada and Benjamin Canada of Salisbury, MD and Lillian and Tess Canada of Niskyuana, NY. He also leaves one sister Connie (Glen) Higgins, and one nephew John Higgins (Lisa) both of Port Deposit, MD and one sister-in-law Janice Kullmann of Rome.

Charles was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Sherrill and a past member of NYAPT and past President of the Mohawk Region Chapter. He also was a member of the Madison County Historical Association where he served as a volunteer for the Craft Days. He also served on the Oneida Castle Village Board for ten years.

Charles was a talented mechanic and woodworker and was known to be able to make or fix anything. He and his wife operated a decorative painting business where he did all the woodworking. They traveled to craft shows and sold to shops throughout the east coast.

In keeping with Charles' wishes there will be no public services. The family will gather privately to honor Charles' life. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral of Sherrill. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
