Obituary of Doris M. Thaler

Vernon-Doris M. (Gifford) Thaler, age 91, Vernon, NY, passed peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, May 7^th, 2025, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Augusta, NY, on March 5^th, 1934, to the late Ross and Laura (Morris) Gifford.

 An alumnus of the VVS class of 1952, she pursued secretarial duties beginning at Griffiss Air Force Base and retiring from Vernon Downs as an Executive Secretary to the President.

 Doris married Richard Thaler on September 20^th, 1958, in the United Methodist Church, Vernon, NY and enjoyed 65 years of loving marriage.

 After retirement, Doris sought enjoyment in spending time with her three grandchildren. Often traveling to watch sporting events, scholastic achievements, and holidays throughout the years with the family. Particularly, Christmas in Hawaii and attending crafting shows with her daughter-in-law in Ohio.

 She was predeceased by her husband, Richard. She is survived by her son Christopher (Joann) Thaler, who resides in Calcutta, Ohio, and her daughter Pene (David) Dutton who lives in Melbourne, FL and her loving grandchildren; Eric (Anna) Thaler of Cedar Hill, TN, Justin (Jody) Thaler of Calcutta, Ohio, Katrina Dutton of Melbourne, FL, and great-granddaughter Avery of Calcutta, Ohio. Doris is also survived by her sister Rita (Reg) Webster of Verona, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 The family would like to thank Dr. Salil Gupta, MD, Dr. Roberto Martinez, MD, and staff for their care. The family would especially like to thank Trista Reynolds, owner of “Two More Hands” Home Care, and her wonderful team – Midge, Kaela, Shannon, and Sue for the compassionate care and companionship.

 Calling hours and service are to be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating at 551 Sayles Street, Oneida, NY. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon, NY following the funeral. All are invited to greet the family between 1:00 and 2:00 PM, with services immediately following.

 The family requests that donations be made in the memory of Doris to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
