Richard was my best friend, companion and partner for many years. He brought me much joy! He never stopped teaching. It was Richard, who had said to me “Our gifts are meant to be shared”. I am grateful to have had him in my life. I loved him dearly, I will miss him.

Rit was a wonderful, innovative educator in so many capacities. He was also a very talented woodcarver, author, and photographer. I was happy to curate his solo photography exhibit at the Kallet in the Jessie Griffing Gallery a few years ago. His love of nature and the environment was evident in all his many accomplishments. I have very fond memories of my 2nd grade year with Mr. Midlam at Oneida Castle School in 1984! He was one of my very favorite teachers - and was the one that inspired me to be a 2nd grade teacher. That is until I took an accounting course as a senior in high school and changed my major. But where do you think my love of numbers came from?

I will always remember Rit for his genuine love of nature and people. He taught me how to work with the reluctant swimmers at Camp Lookout. He also was an amazing dancer. He loved his family and friends that became family.

Alex and I will never forget how Mr. Midlam helped our daughter, Jacklynn, through the death of her grandmother, when she was in second grade. His compassion and understanding were greatly appreciated. He was a wonderful second grade teacher. May he rest in eternal peace.
