Douglas "Dougie" J. Schlick, Jr., 49, of Barrington, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 27, 2025, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on September 5, 1976, in Hamilton, New York, the son of Douglas and Beverly Jean Schlick. A gifted athlete, Dougie graduated from V.V.S. High School, Class of 1995, where he excelled in the wrestling room. Following high school, he entered the construction industry, eventually joining Nicholson Construction in Curry, Pennsylvania. For the past 20 years, he dedicated himself to the company as a Special Projects and Operating Engineer, earning deep respect for his skill, work ethic, and loyalty. Dougie lived life in constant pursuit of adventure. At any given moment, he could be found on the back of a snowmobile, out on the water, or at home surrounded by the outdoor equipment and "toys" he loved so much. He was happiest outside, embracing every thrill with enthusiasm and fearlessness. On December 27, 2008, Dougie married the love of his life, Elizabeth Anne Snarr - affectionately known to him as "E" - on the ski slopes in Lake Placid. Their 17 years of marriage were marked by an extraordinary bond, unwavering devotion, and a love that was felt by everyone who knew them. Together, they built a life centered on one another and their three beloved pups, the true lights of their lives. As a family, they explored the world, swimming in many oceans, visiting all seven continents, and collecting memories that reflected their shared sense of wonder and adventure. Dougie was predeceased by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Snarr; his mother, Beverly Jean Schlick; and his grandfather, John Schlick. He is survived by his father, Douglas Schlick (Ellen Haigis); his siblings, Stefanie (John) Ringlehan, John (Erica) Schlick, and Cathyann (John) Schlick; his maternal grandparents, William "Buster" and Elizabeth Baker; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth "Oma" Schlick; his five nieces, Nicole (Ed), Jenna (Connor), Cora, Callie, and Anna; and his nephew, Ivan. Dougie is further survived by a large and loving extended family, including his uncles and aunts: Paul (Patty) Schlick; William "Willy" (Brenda) Baker; Wendy (Chuck) Jones; Jeff (Jackie) Baker; and Danny (Sarah) Baker, along with many cherished cousins, including Scott "Scotty" Schlick, who was like a brother to him. Dougie is now reunited with the love of his life and his loyal pups, Daisy, Vannah, and Penny. Dougie's legacy lives on through his closest friends, especially Rob Hebert, his right-hand man and constant companion. Together, they spent countless days at camp alongside Wayne (Carrie) Wagner - traveling the country, attending football games, getting muddy on their toys, or simply enjoying each other's company. Calling hours will be held at Malecki Funeral Home in Vernon, New York, on January 2, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on January 3, 2026, at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. The Schlick family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors of the Portsmouth Regional Hospital ICU for the compassion and care shown to Dougie and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dougie's memory to Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley, in honor of his deep love for animals and his three beloved dogs.
