Being long time neighbors of Alan and Kyle, we have very fond memories of Carl and Elba over the years at family gatherings, as well as spending time at the family camp. The family of Carl Knight has my deepest sympathy during this time of your loss. Carl and I were co-workers at GE Utica Broad Street, he in the Environmental Lab., I in Reliability Engineering. I slowly got to know Carl as I conducted many Environmental Tests on various military equipment. I discovered how active he was outside of work, his vast knowledge, his ability to repair anything, his talents in music and photography. I always said, "Take a business trip with a co-worker and you will really get to know them". Time came when he and I had to take a trip to a Test Lab. in Bohemia, Long Island. We, and a young engineer headed east. Carl was driving our rental station wagon loaded with the unit to be tested and required test equipment. Next thing I knew we were parking in the middle of NY City. I asked Carl, "What are we doing"? His typical Carl reply, "You'll see". There we were, everything under control Carl, with two country boys like ducks out of water walking the streets of NY City. Next thing I knew, we were in elevators headed to the top of the Empire State Building. A first for both of us, something I will always remember and forever be indebted to Carl for. "Yes Carl as you said, I did see". On another trip to Bohemia Carl was driving our rental box truck filled with test equipment and the unit to be tested. Joining us for the trip was a Thermal Engineer, driving his new vehicle and another engineer from my Reliability Unit. Late at night, on the way home after completing the test, the other vehicle heated up. Although he certainly knew better, Carl took the radiator cap off and got burned in the process. Carl should have had me drive him to the hospital but, but instead insisted I drive him home. As I said, take a trip together and you will get to know each other. We became good friends. Carl later photographed my oldest son's wedding. He joined my group that played cards together every lunch hour and joined us when once and a while we played at someone's house on a weekend night.
