Frederick T. Evans
Sherrill-Frederick T. Evans, age 87, of E. Hamilton Ave. passed early January 17, 2017 in the comfort of his home with his loving family.
He was born on December 8, 1929 in Vernon, New York a son of the late Lloyd J.and Mildred (Hyde) Evans and attended schools in Vernon and Sherrill and graduated from Oneida High School.
In 1949 Fred enlisted with the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. He served as a Chief Master Sergeant with the 174th Tactical Fighter Group, National Guard Unit based at Hancock Fleld, Syracuse, New York.
Fred and Anna May Buyea were united in marriage in Christ Church United Methodist of Sherrill on July 15, 1950 and have shared a loving union of over 66 years together.
Prior to his retirement in 1994 Fred was employed as a machinist with the Oneida Limited Silversmith.
During his lifelong residence in the city of Sherrill Fred served as Fire Chief and was a member of the American Legion Post 230 of Sherrill where he was active with the Legion Color Guard for many years.
Surviving are his wife Anna May Evans of Sherrill, six children and their spouses, Dennis (Sue) Evans of Sherrill, Lois Koch and companion Jim Zike of Oneida, Wayne (Jill) Evans of Sherrill, Alan (Deb) Evans of Wenham, MA, Mark (Toni) Evans of Cicero and John Evans of Vernon, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a special friend Phylis Dunn of Sherrill.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Oneida Extended Care Facility and to the Hospice Staff for their kind and compassionate care given to Fred during his illness.
In keeping with the family’s wishes there will be no public calling hours. There will be a graveside service with full military honors in the spring at a day and time to be announced at Valley View Cemetery, Middle Road, Oneida. Donations in memory of Fred may be sent to the Sherrill-Kenwood Volunteer Fire Department, 373 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY, 13461. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., Sherrill, NY.
