Edward F. Oleksy
Vernon-Edward F. Oleksy, age 91, of State Rt. 5 passed away peacefully Sunday evening March 19, 2017 at his home with his loving wife and family at his side.
He was born on March 27, 1925 in Utica, New York, a son of the late William F. and Mary (Jakubowski) Oleksy, and moved to Vernon at the age of 8 where he was a graduate of Vernon High School.
Ed, along with his father William, ran the Oleksy Dairy in Utica before entering the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 where he served as a pilot until 1945 and was a member of the American Legion Post 404 of Vernon.
On September 19, 1953, Ed and Helen M. Fedor were united in marriage in Holy Trinity Church of Utica and have shared this vow of over sixty-three years together.
Together, Ed, his wife Helen and their children ran their dairy farm in Vernon before retiring in 1982.
Ed was a man of integrity. His family and friends could always rely on him. He taught the value of hard work and generosity. He also loved to read, learn and share his knowledge. He was a great conversationalist. He is loved and will be missed by many.
Besides his wife, Helen, he leaves seven children, Marcia (Mark Young), Maureen (Tom Stoio), Marie Ellen, Nadine Murray and husband Mark, Nancy Shanahan and husband Bill, Lauren (Rick Manella) and William Oleksy and wife Peggy, eleven grandchildren, Joseph Prymas and wife Erin, Edward Prymas and wife Lindsay, Stephanie Boehlert, Shannon and Garrett Murray, Colton and Cassidy Shanahan, Austin, Carryn and Brianna Oleksy and Joshua Manella, two great grandchildren Adrienne and Andrew Prymas, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased are two half sisters, Helen Caufield and Anna Dalkewicz.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Ed’s life will be held on April 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 4343 Peterboro Street, Vernon, NY, 13476. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38105. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home, Vernon.
