Lavern R. Harrington Munnsville-Lavern R. Harrington, age 100, passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017. He was born on November 7, 1916 in Merrillsville, New York a son of the late Raymond and Charlotte (Mitchell) Harrington and was educated in the Merrillsville Schools. On February 26, 1938 Lavern and Genevieve Diable were united in marriage in Clockville, New York and shared that union of over seventy-three years together until Genevieve's death on April 21, 2011. Lavern was a dairy farmer his entire life and along with his wife owned the Harrington Farms in Munnsville, New York. He was very musically talented and enjoyed playing the banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He also enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, gardening, working and thinking about the task at hand. After his retirement Lavern along with his wife became members of the New York State Blue Bird Association and conducted yearly population censuses for Cornell University. Lavern was of the Methodist faith. He was a former trustee of the Stockbridge Cemetery Association and sat on various committees for Agway. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Vanderwerken of Munnsville, Sally and George Story of Oneida; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan and Linda Harrington of Munnsville and Dale and Rena Harrington of Honeoye Falls, eight grandchildren, Jane Case, Vicky (Richard) Vulfs, Amy (Giacomo) Masone, JoAnn (Michael) Gates, John Vanderwerken, Paul (Joni) Harrington, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Vanderwerken and Jennifer Story, ten great-grandchildren, one sister Marion Bartlett of Merrillsville and several nieces and nephews. Lavern was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve; daughter Deloris Harrington and two sisters Anita Streeter and Ruth Elford. In keeping with Lavern's wishes there will be no calling hours. Graveside funeral services and burial will be held on Sunday August 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Stockbridge Cemetery, Middle Road, Stockbridge, New York. In memory of Lavern donations may be sent to the Munnsville Fire Dept., 5210 South Main Street, Munnsville, NY, 13409 or the Stockbridge Cemetery, C/O Bunny Snell, Snell Rd., Munnsville, NY, 13409.
