Obituary of Elizabeth A. Blake

  Vernon – Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Countryman) Blake, age 92, of Youngs Road passed away peacefully Monday, November 26, 2018 at her home.

  She was born on December 28, 1925 in Barneveld, New York daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Dailey) Countryman. Betty graduated from Remsen Central School in 1943, valedictorian of her class

  She married Edwin J. Blake on February 3, 1951. They resided in Vernon during their blessed sixty-five years together.

  She retired from V.V.S. after over twenty-six years as a secretary at Vernon Elementary School. She also worked with Edwin farming before and after retirement. Previously she was employed at the former Oneida National Bank of Utica, Utica Credit Bureau and Eastern Crown in Vernon. She was also a trained airplane spotter during WW II.

    She was active with school functions, CSEA, Vernon Historical Association, Vernon Methodist Church and honorary member of the Vernon Fire Department.

    She loved children and being a Mother. Betty was an excellent cook and baker. Many will remember her calls, cards, and notes to stay in touch or offer support and love where ever it was needed.

  She and Edwin enjoyed dancing in their younger years and then enjoyed travel after retirement, bus trips to many states and Canada, visiting her son and family in Ohio. They loved hosting and attending family reunions and gatherings.

  Betty is survived by her daughter, Janice (Roger) Lacey of Richford, NY, and son Robert Blake of Vernon. Also granddaughter Jennifer (Blake) Wilson; grandson-in-law Preston Wilson (Rachael Lehman), great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Karris, Griffin and Tatum Wilson, and Jeremiah and Ezekiel Lehman all of Seattle, WA area. Also her special nephews Ernest (Kristine) Salmon of CA and Keith Countyman of NC and as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and a special friend Ruby Ebersold.

  Betty was predeceased by beloved husband Edwin in 2016 and daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Bridge) Blake in 2013 and her thirteen siblings.

  Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon.  Betty’s funeral service will be held Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following calling hours. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery Rt.5, Vernon New York.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice and Palliative Care.  Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
