Obituary of Roy L. Seelman

Vernon-Roy L. Seelman, age 74, a longtime resident of Vernon passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Oneida Healthcare Center. He was born on September 7, 1946 in Rome, a son of Howard E. and Katherine Conover Seelman. He was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School class of 1966. Roy proudly served his country enlisting in the Marine Corps. serving in Vietnam for 1966-1968. He was awarded two purple hearts and in lieu of the second Purple Heart he was awarded the Gold Star, the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, National defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. Roy worked at Trey Packing (Gol Pak) of Oneida from 1968-1984. Then at H.P. Hood from 1985-2001, retiring early with a disability. He married Lou Ann Kitchen on May 18, 1974, in the Lairdsville United Methodist Church where he is a member. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, watching sports on television and NASCAR. Surviving besides his wife Lou Ann, is one son Matthew R. Seelman of Rome, one daughter Melissa A. Seelman and companion Jim Bernet of Utica, one grandson Alaric L. Bernet, four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Agnes L. (Thomas) Goodridge of Vernon, Carolyn A. (Reginald) Kemp of Bellevue, Wash., Loretta L. (Henry) Badgley of Vernon and Darlene Seelman of Vernon and one brother Edward F. Seelman of Poland and several nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents, one brother Harley L. Seelman, one sister-in-law, Joan Seelman, one niece Laurie Slaga and two nephews, Michael Seelman, Stephen Seelman. Graveside services with military honors will be held in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery, Rt. 5 Vernon, NY. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
