Mrs. Jean M. Carley (Allen), 84, of Tarpon Springs, FL died peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020, with her family by her side. Jean was born January 22, 1936 in Oswego, NY, daughter of George and Dorothy Allen. She graduated from Oswego HS ('53), earned her degree in nursing from Nazareth College ('57) and her masters in Education from SUNY College of Technology ('84). Jean was united in marriage with Robert G. Carley on June 14, 1958. Jean began her career in '57 as a clinical instructor at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. After her children were born, she joined the Madison-Oneida County BOCES in '71 where she was a Practical Nursing Teacher, Health Occupation Coordinator, Administrative Assistant for Adult Education, and Assistant Director of Continuing Education when retiring in 1996. During retirement, she worked as an instructor for home health aides, volunteered for Hospice, and continued to reach out in service to friends and neighbors. The lives of many were influenced by Jean's compassion and commitment to helping others. Jean and Bob raised their family in Verona, NY and were communicants of Our Lady of Good Counsel, as well as St. Mary's of the Snows while residing in Woodgate, NY. During her years in Tarpon Springs, she attended Saint Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church. Jean loved her years living at White Lake in Woodgate, NY and at Windrush Bay in Tarpon Springs, FL. Surviving are seven daughters; Barbara (Michael Hulser) of Woodgate, NY, Lynn (Wally Weckesser) of Fairbanks, AK, Jan Carley-Turnbow of Fayetteville, NC, Jayne (Mark Hopkins) of Linwood, KS, Susan Snyder of Wilmington, NY, Deborah (Robert Thomas) of Woodgate, NY, Christine (Jim Malia) of Scarborough, ME and one son, Peter Carley of Riverside, CA. Also surviving Jean are two sisters, Judy Dillon (Bill) of Rochester, NY and Sally Romano (Steve) of Fayetteville, NY, 17 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2002, her son Robert in 1988 and her son-in-law, Mark Snyder in 2016, granddaughters Katy Weckesser in 1986 and Michelle Weckesser in 1989. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday August 5, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, N. James Street, Rome, NY with Rev. Sean P. O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in White Lake Cemetery, Woodgate, NY.
