Obituary of Elba L. Knight

Vernon-Elba L. Knight, age 84, of Peterboro Street passed away peacefully Monday evening May 30, 2022 in St. Luke's Healthcare Center with her loving family at her side. She was born on December 15, 1937 in DeRuyter, New York a daughter of the late Clesson and Mabel (Eaton) Lidell. She was one of 11 children and was a graduate of the DeRuyter Schools. On March 8, 1958 Elba and Carl H. Knight were united in marriage in the Unadilla Presbyterian Church and have shared this loving vow of over sixty-four years together. Prior to her retirement Elba enjoyed a career as a library clerk with the Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools. She was a selfless person who dedicated her life giving to others. She was a former Cub Scout Troop leader. Elba was very active with the Vernon United Methodist Church where she was instrumental in coordinating multiple activities and promoting fellowship including hand bell choir and cooking and baking for dinners and bake sales. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and crafting. She was a dedicated grandmother to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her husband Carl H. Knight of Vernon, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Knight and Gary Hevey of Verona, two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Jane Knight of Montpelier, VT, Alan and Kyle Knight of Chittenango, six grandchildren, Rebecca, Benjamin, Rachael, Alyssa, Wilson and Ginger and four great-grandchildren, Arianna, Elijah, Haley and Piper. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday June 3, 2022 from 11:00 to 12:00 noon at the Vernon United Methodist Church 5230 W. Seneca Street, Vernon, NY. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon at the church with Rev. Frank Loan officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, DeRuyter, NY.
