Obituary of George F. Thurston Sr.

Vernon-George Frederick Thurston Sr. passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, August 6, 2023 at home with his family at his side.

  He was born in Oneida, NY on August 25, 1941 a son of the late Myron J. and Minnie (Lewis) Thurston and attended V.V.S. Schools.

  George was joined in marriage with Shirley A. Hubbard on September 8, 1962.

  He worked on his family farm until the age of 64. After he left the farm, he went to work for the next 15 years at Madison-Oneida BOCES.

  George was an avid snowmobiler and hunter. He enjoyed the outdoors and his spare time he could always be found working in his yard. He loved spending time with his family.

  George is predeceased by his loving daughter, Amy (Peanut), his brothers, Myron (Buddy), John and William.

  George is survived by his wife Shirley Thurston, daughters Marney (Gary) Rowland, Dawn (Cliff) Fritzen and son George Jr. (Teresa) Thurston. Sisters-in-law, Barbara Thurston and Sally Thurston, son-in-law Joe Graff, grand kids, Ashley, James, Jesse, Matthew, Jonathon, Michelle, Bean (Samantha), Bubba (George), Tammie, Brandy and Jaden. Great-grand kids, Paul, Jacob, Noah, Ethan, Elliot, Collin, Rylan, Finnian and Adelaide.

 Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A funeral service will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral Home with Pastor David W. Johnson officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 10:00a.m. in Valley View Cemetery, 1776 Middle Road.
