Obituary of Dorothy "dottie" Smith

Dorothy "dottie" Smith Verona-Dorothy "dottie" Smith, age 87, of Germany Road passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015 at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 2, 1927 in Pittsburg, PA, a daughter of the late Patrick Joseph and Mary (Joyce) Kelly, and was a graduate of All Saints Catholic High School. After high school "dottie" and Elliot J. Smith were married in Woodside Queens, New York (1948) and the couple shared a loving union until Elliott's death on August 3, 1981. "dottie" had a long working career as a secretary with Ciba Geigy Pharmaceutical Company of Greensboro, NC, retiring in 1988. She later resumed her working career with the New York State Department of Corrections at Mohawk Correctional Facility retiring in 1997. Her memberships included Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of Verona, Catholic Daughters, Junior Catholic Daughters Leader in Cornwall, New York, Rosary Society, Order of Hibernians of Utica, Red Hat Society and a lifetime member of the Professional Secretaries Association. She volunteered at Oneida Hospital and was a volunteer tutor teaching English as a second language in Harlingen, Texas and Oneida, New York. She is survived by four daughters and their spouses; Monica and Wayne W. Storms, Jocelyn Lugo, Deirdre and Clint Vaughan, Christina and Michael Wayne Trammell, a son-in-law Joseph Palamara, one sister Annamae and her husband Richard Conlon, one brother James Patrick Kelly and his wife Theresa, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, , and several nieces and nephews. "dottie" was predeceased by her parents Mary Joyce and Patrick Joseph Kelly, her husband Elliott James Smith and eldest daughter Jacqueline Palamara. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday July 20, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, located at 23 Front Street, Vernon, New York. Mrs. Smith's Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday July 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Main Street, Verona, with Rev. Edmund Castronovo celebrant. Burial will be private and at the family's convenience, in St. Thomas of Canterbury Cemetery, Cornwall, New York. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
