Vernon Center-Linda D. Dixon, age 76, of Vernon Center passed away early Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024, in Crouse Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born on May 21, 1948, in Oneida, New York a daughter of the late Floyd and Anna (Harrington) Durant and was a graduate of Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools.
On August 26, 1967, Linda and Robert K. Dixon, two high school sweethearts were united in marriage in St. Catherine's Catholic Church of Vernon and have been inseparable for the last fifty-seven years.
Prior to her retirement Linda was employed for over 20 years at Hamilton College in the Communication and Development Department.
Her three greatest passions in her life were her family, her work and her dogs. After she retired from Hamilton College, Linda was a bus driver who enjoyed getting her young students safely to school and back to their homes. Retirement also gave her more time to spend with her children and grandchildren. Linda and her husband Robert enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel RV spending winters in Arizona with their children and grandchildren and traveling to places like Disney World, Mexico, and Hawaii.
Surviving is her loving and devoted husband; Robert K. Dixon of Vernon Center, NY, her three children; Shawn (Norman) Rutan of Litchfield Park, AZ, Shannan Dixon of Phoenix, AZ and Neal Dixon of Goodyear, AZ, three beloved grandchildren; Ashley, Aubrey, and Kent, sister; Isabelle (Thomas) Campbell, sister-in-law, Katherine McGregor and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be private. Family and friends are invited to attend Linda's Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Spirit of Hope's Holy Family Church, 4352 Peterboro Street, Vernon, NY. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, 1193 Fairview Ave., Oneida, NY. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home of Vernon.
